Pounds to Euros
Today we have the UK MPC policy announcement which will be of interest, with the committee revisiting its economic forecasts ahead of the August Inflation Report. Both the bank rate and the asset purchase program are expected to remain on hold. However markets could see one policy member ‘Martin Weale’ vote for an increase, although this will not be know until the minutes are released in two weeks time.
The European Central bank also meets this afternoon at 12.45pm followed by the ECB press conference at 1.30pm. Forward looking surveys have been mixed over the past month while CPI inflation slowed to just 0.4 percent year on year in July. However markets do not expect the ECB to follow up with any further measures having recently announced additional stimulus. President Draghis press conference will be closely watched for clues on the European financial outlook. Always a market mover!
